WEEK 1 : SEEKING KNOWLEDGE
For the 1st week, we are required to watch a video provided by our facilitator, Madam Aini Rahman. Our first task was to reflect on this video titled "Seeking Knowledge" by Mufti Menk. From the video, Mufti Menk shows us how to find tranquillity and contentment through seeking knowledge.
Seeking knowledge is very important necessity of our lives as Muslims. Our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is quoted to have said, “Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.” Islam has given great importance to the process of seeking knowledge. For instance, if we look at the first five verses ever revealed in the Quran,
{Recite: In the name of thy Lord who created man from a clot. Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous who taught by the pen, taught man that which he knew not." (Quran, 96:1-5)}
We can see that the word “اقـــــرأ” (read) is repeated two times; the word "قـــــلــــم" (pen) is mentioned once and the word "عــــلَّـم" (learn) is repeated twice.
It is proven here that if we do not know or keep on hesitating about something related to the religion, we should start asking to those who know more about it. If we still do not make any moves towards it, we probably could increase the ignorance in ourselves, have the chance to lose our happiness, and even life will get harder in achieving our goals.
Mufti Menk also mentioned in the video that Allah said in the Quran in Surah An-Nahl verse 43,
"If we do not know, then ask those who know."
To summarize, we should not be shy to seek knowledge. As the result, we get to achieve contentment when doing something that requires our knowledges on it. In my opinion, we should try to practice asking questions to those who are better than us when seeking new knowledges or those who we trust.
